Dump trucks
in Niagara Falls
Cameron's has dispatched trucks to Niagara Falls sites for decades, on jobs from one tri-axle for a day to crews on multi-season civil work. Tri-axles from owner-operators based in Niagara, through one dispatch desk, 24 hours a day.
Dispatch is (905) 988-5454. The office answers Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm.
What gets hauled in Niagara Falls
Most Niagara Falls work is four kinds of job: aggregate deliveries, commercial site prep, road reconstruction, and excess soil hauled off to approved disposal sites. The Montrose Road industrial area west of the QEW, the south end around Lyons Creek Road, and the City's watermain and sewer renewals in the older neighbourhoods are where much of it happens. Tri-axles move gravel, stone and excavated soil between the active site, the quarry and the disposal site.
Cameron's supplies trucks to municipal and Regional projects across Niagara through the year. Which projects changes with each year's program, so the page does not list them; dispatch knows what is running this season.
Where the material comes from, and where it goes
Niagara Falls has working quarries close by, so most of the city is a short cycle from the stone. Sand and gravel come from the pits to the west and south.
Excess soil and demolition debris also have a destination inside the city. The South Landfill on Taylor Road takes construction and demolition waste, and soil after testing and approval, Monday to Friday with Saturday mornings. The Thorold Townline depot takes clean concrete and clean asphalt. The Region's landfills at Humberstone in Welland and Niagara Road 12 in West Lincoln are the longer run and take clean concrete, brick and asphalt by the tonne, and commercial clean soil with approval. Tipping fees change yearly; dispatch confirms the current rate when the job is booked.
Moving fill in or out of a Niagara Falls site needs the City's site alteration permit, and the application asks for a diagram of the truck route. Ontario's excess soil regulation (O. Reg. 406/19) then requires every load of excess soil to travel with a hauling record naming where it came from, where it is going and how much, and the hauler keeps it.
Rules that change a Niagara Falls job
Spring reduced loads. From March 1 to April 30 the Region limits trucks to five tonnes per axle on posted roads. In Niagara Falls that covers Thorold Townline Road between Brown Road and McLeod Road, Chippawa Creek Road from Thorold Townline to Garner Road, and Sodom Road from Lyons Creek Road to Weaver Road. Dispatch plans the truck count around it.
Heavy-truck streets. The City's Traffic and Parking By-law keeps vehicles over 4,500 kilograms off signed streets except for a direct delivery to an address on them, bars heavy-vehicle parking on City streets between 2am and 6am, and requires a City permit for anything over Highway Traffic Act weight or size on City roads. Dispatch routes to the signage when a site address is given.
Working hours. The City's noise by-law keeps construction equipment, trucks included, quiet where it can be heard from homes between 7pm and 7am, and before 9am on weekends and holidays. The tourist core has exemptions for loading and music only. Public-body work and its contractors are exempt, which is why a Regional watermain job can start earlier than a private site across the street.
Trucks on Niagara Falls sites
Jobs here run on tri-axle dump trucks, which typically carry 20 to 22 metric tonnes. Screened grindings and aggregates are delivered by the truckload the same way.
Every truck on a Niagara Falls job is paid the same rate, whoever owns it.
